In Knoblauch's essay, I understand and agree that Literate people are more powerful than the illiterate, but I can't help to feel that it is the literate population's job to increase. Literate people should help the illiterate and not take advantage of them. I'm not talking about elementry students and teachers; I'm talking about immigrants and even other countries that have poor education systems. I also believe money is a huge obstacle and if society keeps following down the same path then we will never dig ourselves out of this whole. This situation between Literacy and illiteracy reminds me of the United States debt problem. We keep buying even though we don't have money. We keep literate people powerful with jobs and money and forget about the illiterate people. I know its a responsibilty of one's own to want to be literate, but if we don't have enough facilities or help and it makes it impossible for one become literate, then how are we helping, honestly? I feel the power should equal out; the powerful should help the powerless.
